Charity in the Biohotel Il Plonner

Act instead of talking. - BIO makes the world a little bit better!

Lively discussions are held at the light wooden tables in the dining room. “Save the world …”, the guest picks up a snippet of conversation. “If it were that easy: save the world,” he turns to the Gamsbart wearer at the bar. He looks at him in astonishment. “It’s easy,” he says, pointing to the landlady who is just entering the organic restaurant Il Plonner. “Carola Petrone has already started with it.”

WHY?

  • Munich has to become species-appropriate!
Industrial factory farming is hazardous to health, cruel to animals, anti-social, polluting, unnecessary – and above all: undesirable. Farmers are increasingly losing the battle against agricultural factories. Even with us in Bavaria.
  • Dangerous to health:
Industrial animal fattening systems are a breeding ground for multi-resistant germs that are hazardous to health and against which antibiotics can no longer help. Ascending trend.
  • Cruel to animals:
The vast majority of our livestock lead a miserable, short and painful life in intensive industrial animal husbandry.
  • Environmentally harmful:
A third of the groundwater in Bavaria is in poor condition: The main reason for this is the high level of nitrate from agricultural manure – a substance that can be converted into carcinogenic nitrite in the body.
  • Antisocial:
Germany has long since transformed into the »cheap slaughterhouse in Europe«. Hourly wages of 3 – 5 euros are not uncommon.
  • Also in Bavaria:
An ideal world in Bavaria? Not even close! With 8.4 million animal places applied for and approved for broilers (an increase of over 60 percent in just three years), we are in third place in Germany. We are seeing a similar development in pigs and cattle.

Our goal: species-appropriate Munich

»Munich must become species-appropriate!«
The state capital of Munich is to commit itself by city council resolution for its sphere of activity to only use or allow products in the future that can be proven to come from animal welfare:

  • in all city canteens
  • in all urban facilities (childcare facilities, hospitals, cultural institutions, etc.)
  • at all city receptions
  • at all public events at which the city is the host (e.g. city foundation festival, Auer Dulten, Christmas market, Oktoberfest)

Is that affordable?
Yes. An external report commissioned by Tollwood comes to the conclusion that the additional costs for species-appropriate products in childcare and canteen areas are below 10 percent, and between 10 and 20 percent for major events.

What do the people of Munich want?
A TNS Emnid survey from October 2014 commissioned by Tollwood showed: 75 percent of Munich residents would welcome such a voluntary commitment, 85 percent are willing to pay the additional price required.

This goal needs strong voices!

Prominent representatives of Munich’s urban society – individuals, companies, institutions, organizations – are working with Tollwood for a species-appropriate Munich in the action alliance “Species-Appropriate Munich”: Help us to remind the city fathers and mothers of their responsibility!

MoMo Party II

Charity project of the GASTRO-FOUNDATION-NEPALGRUPPE

The great success of the first MoMo party in January 2013 encouraged the hosts for a ‘Da Capo’. The aim of the hosts was to improve the equipment of the new ‘Endoscopy-Training-Center’ ETC in Dhulikhel Hospital / Nepal with an urgently needed ’emergency vehicle’ (for acute emergencies, resuscitation measures, etc.) through a benefit event.

Two teams of helpers, each about 10 friends, occupied the inn kitchen on two afternoons and produced over 500 MoMo (filled dumplings), sauces, starters and desserts. The dignified guest room of the ‘Plonner’ was given a suitable, wonderful atmosphere thanks to original Nepalese accessories. After the 50 guests and small appetizers had been welcomed, the first thing to do was to say ‘compulsory’. First a presentation of the positive development of the GF-Nepal project in the Dhulikhel Hospital. On the one hand, the guests were impressed by the enormous increase in performance of the endoscopy department – the supply of invasive endoscopy to all of Nepal, function as a training center for doctors from Nepal, but also occasionally from Tanzania / Africa Endoscopy at Dhulikhel Hospital was mainly effected by the activities of the GF-Nepal group. The companies OLYMPUS, Mediglobe, ERBE and E&L medical Systems deserve special mention as the biggest sponsors of the ETC, whose permanent support of the ETC with endoscopic equipment, accessories, EDP, etc. is the basis of success.

After the ‘duty’, the cozy part followed in the ‘Plonner’. As a transition, D. Hagena showed the incredible beauty of Nepal in a presentation – its only economic asset! – Pictures from the three wonderful royal places around Kathmandu as well as fascinating landscape pictures from various own trekking tours: Annapurna – Lantang – Everest – Mustang etc. Then finally there was MoMo, ‘all you can eat’ was announced and almost all MoMo were destroyed! The drinks were served by the host Domenico Petrone at cost price. The mood couldn’t have been better, it signaled all-round satisfaction. With lively conversations, the cozy get-together lasted well after midnight.

And the result?

The hosts asked for € 50 per participant. The 50 guests present donated between € 50 and € 500 – a total of more than € 3,700.00. Not all invited friends were able to take part; further donations (13) between 50 € and 500 € came for the GF Nepal project ETC – a total of more than 1,300.00 €. The fantastic overall result: over € 5,100.00. With the help of their guests, the hosts of the MoMo party were able to fully achieve the set goal. The donation will now be used – without any deduction – to purchase a complete emergency vehicle.

On behalf of the GF and the ETC team in Dhulikhel Hospital, many thanks to all donors but also to all helpers, without whom so many good MoMos would not have been possible.

Plant for Planet

Think about tomorrow today. That is why we regularly support the Plant-for-the-Planet school initiative.

This was started in 2007 by the then nine-year-old pupil Felix Finkbeiner from Pähl. Felix received the decisive impetus for the idea of Plant-for-the-Planet when he was preparing for a lecture on the topic of climate change. When Felix spoke to the United Nations, he met the Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize laureate Wangari Maathai, who with her movement “The Green Belt Movement” planted around 30 million trees in Africa in 30 years.

At the end of his presentation, Felix envisioned that children in every country could plant 1 million trees. At the start of the initiative, the first tree was planted at Felix’s school on March 28, 2007. Schoolchildren in Bavaria and all over Germany took up the idea and further plantings followed in April. After one year, 150,000 trees were planted. In 2008 Felix was elected to the UNEP Children’s Board at the international UNEP-TUNZA Children’s Conference. To this day, Felix has managed to have more than an unbelievable 13 billion trees planted around the world!
